Sensitive Skincare May Well Be Exceptionally Infuriating - Here Are Seven Tips Which Will Help

Probably the most annoying of skin types, sensitive skin is hard to handle because you're never quite certain what to use on it. Sensitive skincare entails plenty of trial and error to find the correct products that will not further irritate your skin. This can add up to a bunch of money spent over the years on unsuitable products that have to be discarded .

This skin type is comparatively new and is becoming more widespread mostly due to the increasing amounts of chemicals found in skincare products. Individuals with this type of skin probably have a genetic tendency towards sensitivity, however skin may also become sensitive through over exposure to the weather. Aggressive acne products, such as Accutane, could also cause normal skin to become sensitive.

How do you know if your skin is sensitive? Sensitive skin is generally dried out, responds badly to certain skincare products, can react badly to particular foods (for example spicy foods) and tends towards itchiness, redness and swelling.

If you have sensitive skin you already know how infuriating it is to care for. All those lotions and potions that have to be thrown away simply because they responded badly with your skin causing the usual dryness and discomfort. You may have already given up the hunt for decent sensitive skincare and resolved to simply stick with the products you know are appropriate for you. The thing is your skin essentially enjoys a bit of variety, so I'm here to tell you it's quite possible to find a good sensitive skin care product, if you go along with the tips below.

Select hypo-allergenic and fragrance-free products. Hypo-allergenic is no guarantee that a product won't cause a bad reaction on your skin but it reduces the likelihood of that occurring. Hypoallergenic products generally leave out known allergy causing ingredients giving less chance of irritating the skin.

Don't use a bunch of different products on your face. It stands to reason that the more stuff you put on your face, the higher the chance that some of them will have an element which irritates. Find sensitive skin care products that you know your skin will tolerate and use them regularly.

Don't cleanse your face more than twice a day. Yes, cleansing is important, but over cleansing will play havoc your skin and take away the protective barrier that keeps moisture in the skin and guards against bacteria. Use mild cleansers or a mixture of milk and olive oil to safely clear away make-up, dirt and harmful bacteria.

Don't exfoliate. Exfoliating your skin using a scrub is designed to remove dead skin cells, but will aggravate skin that is sensitive. Using a product containing salicylic acid offers a less severe form of exfoliation and effectively clears out the pores. Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid which is non irritating if used sparingly. Pregnant women are not advised to use it as the effects on the unborn infant are unknown.

Don't use an astringent. It's typically believed that astringent will dry up the oils in your skin. Well it will, but oil production will then increase to compensate so it's a continuous cycle. Astringent is harsh on sensitive skin so, bottom line, simply don't use it.

Use mineral or water based make-up. Oil based make up can clog the pores and it also consists of many harsh chemicals. A water based cosmetic is non-comedogenic and a better option. Mineral make up is a more natural choice and many brands are chemical free.

Select a natural sun block. Sensitive skincare requires a sunscreen as the sun can aggravate and burn the skin. Trouble is most sunscreens bought commercially contain a variety of nasty chemicals. Opt for sunscreen that contains zinc or titanium dioxide as these will block UV rays on the skin's surface rather than being absorbed.

Sensitive skin care is an ongoing and often tedious process. Even so the advantages are worth the trouble. Follow the above guidelines and you'll have beautiful healthy skin for life.
